Interview with Cameron Holbrook, Head, Worldwide AgTech BizDev at Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Cameron Holbrook is the Head of Worldwide AgTech Business Development for Amazon Web Services (AWS). In this role he is responsible for leading strategic collaborations with customers and for helping define the direction for AWS in Agriculture to ensure technical services help address key challenges in AgTech.  Prior to AWS, Cameron was at John Deere (2009-2017) where he held multiple positions, including those that focused on digital and strategic partnerships.  Previously he was also the Operations Manager at his family’s 7,000 acre wheat farm (2005-2008).

What are you presenting at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit in San Francisco?
I will be talking about how AWS is helping to build a new generation of AgTech entrepreneurs with customers such as Bayer, Figured, and Teralytic through the adoption of Amazon’s culture of innovation. In addition, I will be highlighting some of the advanced solutions our AgTech customers have developed on AWS and how we support our customers’ innovation and transformation initiatives. My presentation is Wednesday March 20 at 10am.

How does AWS fit into Agriculture?
Some of the most innovative and advanced technologies in agriculture that help drive operational efficiencies and provide better data insights are running on the AWS Cloud. Some of these solutions include using IoT Core and AWS IoT Greengrass to provide real-time crop analysis, Amazon SageMaker for artificial intelligence and machine learning to make informed decisions about growing conditions, and protecting data integrity for food manufacturers; enabling transparency in food traceability. AWS works with some of the largest agricultural companies as well as numerous startups like DuPont, Trimble, FrieslandCampina, and FBN. Some examples of how we’ve worked with customers can be found in case studies with TerrAvion and Bayer Crop Science here:

What are you most looking forward to at World Agri-Tech?
I am really excited to engage with people that are passionate about agriculture and looking to make a positive impact for farmers. I am passionate about the intersection of technology and agriculture and how IoT, AI/ML, edge computing, and data lakes are enabling farmers, enterprises, and start-ups like Cargill and Farmobile. If you’re at the show, I would love to hear about the inspiring projects your companies are working on and explore how AWS can accelerate innovation and transformation in the industry.

Look out for Cameron Holbrook delivering a stand-alone panel session at the World Agri-Tech Innovation Summit on ‘How is AWS Building A New Generation of Agri-Tech Entrepreneurs?’ on Wednesday March 20 at 10am. Amazon Web Services is a Gold Partner for the summit.
